Ambassador Antoine Evrard

Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Belgium in Japan! I hope this site can be a gateway to help you with your practical questions and to discover more about Belgium-Japan relations.

The variety of ties that unite Belgium and Japan is impressive, going from trade, culture, sciences to sports and much more. This is the result of decades of cooperation between our governments, our institutions, our private sector and our citizens. Economic contacts are thriving, boosted by the high quality and complementarity of our companies. We are exploring new areas of cooperation such as the digital and green revolutions, which are priorities for both Belgium, Europe and Japan. Our countries are also working together to protect the international rules-based order, to defuse regional tensions and conflicts, to tackle climate change and to promote the Sustainable Development Goals. I am also happy to witness increasing personal contacts, be it through academic exchanges, culture or tourism.

We will have many more occasions to cooperate. During the first semester of 2024, Belgium is holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union. Also in 2024, elections will be held for the Belgian federal and regional parliaments and for the European Parliament. In 2025, Belgium will participate with its own pavilion at the World Expo of Osaka, where we will showcase to Japan and the world the best that Belgium has to offer. And in 2026, we will commemorate the 160th anniversary of our bilateral relationship. These moments are key to celebrate the friendship between our two countries, to take stock and to look ahead at future projects and common endeavors.

I am looking forward to further developing our ties and to continue offering the Embassy’s assistance to your needs and projects.

Yours sincerely,

Antoine Evrard
Ambassador of Belgium to Japan
